Chattogram Kings were chasing a target of 204 runs set by Khulna Tigers. To chase such a large target, they needed a strong start, which was provided by Khulna’s bowler, Oshane Thomas. He conceded a total of 15 runs from a single ball, thanks to a series of no-balls and wides.
On the first delivery of the innings, Chattogram’s opener Naim Islam was dismissed, but he survived. In the end, that very ball saw 15 runs being added to the score. This set a new world record for the most runs scored from a single delivery in T20 cricket.
Previously, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal held the record with 13 runs from one ball, achieved against Zimbabwe earlier this year. On that occasion, 7 runs came from a no-ball and 1 from a six.
Though Thomas had the chance to dismiss Naim Islam initially, he could not celebrate due to a no-ball. After the free-hit, he bowled a dot ball, but soon lost control. He started with 6 runs from a no-ball, followed by two wides, and then conceded 4 more runs from another no-ball. This resulted in 15 runs on a single ball.
After this embarrassing record, Thomas bowled a legitimate delivery, which was a dot ball. However, he bowled another no-ball, which resulted in Naim getting another life. After the free-hit, Naim could not survive, and he was dismissed, caught out. In that long 12-ball over, Thomas gave away 18 runs and took 1 wicket.
