Who is ahead in the Bangladesh–Pakistan clash?

In the crucial Super Four match of the Asia Cup, Bangladesh and Pakistan face off. This match is considered an “unofficial semifinal” for the two neighboring nations.

At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, whoever wins today will directly qualify for the final. In their third and last Super Four match, the team that comes out victorious will join India in the final. India has already confirmed their place with 2 wins and 4 points.

The final match will be held on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Today’s Bangladesh–Pakistan clash will determine who will meet India in the final.

Compared to Bangladesh, Pakistan is miles ahead. Bangladesh has never reached a World Cup semifinal, whereas Pakistan won the 1992 World Cup.

In the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh has never made it to the final. Pakistan, on the other hand, became champions in 2009 by defeating Sri Lanka in the second edition of the tournament.

In the Asia Cup, Bangladesh has reached the final three times but never lifted the trophy. Pakistan, however, has won the title twice out of three finals—defeating Sri Lanka in 2000 and Bangladesh in 2012.

Not only in World Cups and Asia Cups, but in head-to-head encounters too, Pakistan is ahead of Bangladesh.

The two sides have met 25 times in T20Is. Out of those encounters, Bangladesh has managed to win only 5, while Pakistan dominated with 20 victories.

In the Asia Cup, they have faced each other 15 times. Bangladesh has won only 2 matches, while Pakistan claimed victory in the remaining 13.

Overall statistics clearly favor Pakistan. However, recent numbers tell a different story. Since 2024, Bangladesh has played 8 matches against Pakistan across all formats, winning 4 and losing 4.

In their last 5 T20 meetings, Pakistan won 3, while Bangladesh won 2. Most recently, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in a T20 series. If the Tigers can draw inspiration from that memory and win today’s do-or-die battle, they will qualify for the Asia Cup final for the first time since 2018.
