Mehidy Hasan Miraz: The World’s No. 2 Test All-Rounder

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is steadily advancing toward his dream of becoming the best all-rounder in the world. In the latest ICC Test all-rounder rankings, the Bangladeshi cricketer has climbed to the second spot. For years, Shakib Al Hasan held the title of the world’s best all-rounder across all formats. However, with Shakib currently out of the national team, Miraz seems to be following in his footsteps.

Notably, Bangladesh did not play a Test match last week, so Miraz’s ranking improved not because of his performance but due to Ravichandran Ashwin’s below-par showing in the Adelaide Test against Australia. Ashwin slipped to third place, allowing Miraz to rise to second with a rating of 284 points, just ahead of Ashwin’s 283 points. India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead the rankings with 415 points, far ahead of his competitors.

Miraz has expressed his aspiration to become the best all-rounder globally but acknowledged that achieving such a feat takes time. His rise in the rankings began in October after Bangladesh’s Mirpur Test against South Africa, where he first reached the third position.

Current Rankings:

  1. Ravindra Jadeja (India) – 415 points
  2. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh) – 284 points
  3. Ravichandran Ashwin (India) – 283 points
  4. Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) – 263 points
  5. Marco Jansen (South Africa) – 260 points

Bangladesh’s next Test series is in June-July against Sri Lanka. Until then, Miraz’s ranking will depend on the performance of other players, particularly Ashwin.

In Other Rankings:

In the ICC Test batters’ rankings, England’s Harry Brook has claimed the top spot with an outstanding performance during the New Zealand series. He leads with 898 points, narrowly surpassing his teammate Joe Root, who has 897 points after a crucial unbeaten century in the Wellington Test.
