Shakib Al Hasan is currently going through a tough phase. Unable to return to Bangladesh due to political upheavals, the star all-rounder has been playing in franchise leagues worldwide instead of representing the national team. However, even this hasn’t brought him much respite. On Thursday night, December 12, the owner of the Lanka T10 Super League team Galle Marvels, Prem Thakkar, was arrested on match-fixing charges. Shakib, a player for Galle Marvels, is currently in Sri Lanka for the tournament.
Although Prem Thakkar operates a team in the Sri Lankan league, he is an Indian national. On Friday, December 13, he was presented before the Colombo Magistrate Court, which granted a four-day remand, according to a report by Sri Lankan news outlet NewsWire.
The report stated that Prem Thakkar allegedly offered a match-fixing proposal to a foreign player in his team. The player, however, refused the offer and reported it to the league’s Anti-Corruption Unit. Subsequently, Sri Lanka’s Sports Police Unit arrested Thakkar on Thursday night.
This incident casts a shadow over the Lanka T10 Super League and raises questions about the integrity of the tournament and its management.
