Chattogram secured their second consecutive victory in the regional stage of the Bangladesh Cricket Board-organized Young Tigers Under-18 Cricket Tournament. Yesterday, at Chandpur Stadium, the Chattogram district team defeated Brahmanbaria district by 39 runs, thanks to Sohag’s exceptional bowling performance, which rescued his team’s pride despite a batting collapse.
Sohag, who contributed 19 runs with the bat, was outstanding with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for just 11 runs in his 8 overs. His spell ensured a dominant win for Chattogram.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Chattogram’s innings got off to a shaky start, losing wickets at regular intervals. While opener Priyam tried to hold one end, the other batters struggled, resulting in Chattogram being bowled out for only 115 runs in 38 overs. Extras contributed the highest score of 27 runs, highlighting the struggles of Chattogram’s batters. Opener Priyam scored 23, while Sohag added 19.
For Brahmanbaria, Tarek picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs, Abir claimed 2 wickets for 16 runs, while Wasim, Ayif, and Nayeem each took one wicket.
Chasing a modest target of 116, Brahmanbaria started poorly, losing their first wicket for just 10 runs, with both openers being run out. Opener Makdum managed only 4 runs, while his partner Apon scored a team-high 22 runs. However, Sohag’s spin wizardry soon took over, as he dismantled the Brahmanbaria batting lineup, sending five batters back to the pavilion in quick succession.
Only Apon and Yasin, who was run out for 14, managed to reach double digits. Brahmanbaria’s innings ended at 76 runs in 33.5 overs.
For Chattogram, Sohag was the standout performer with figures of 8 overs, 2 maidens, 11 runs, and 5 wickets. Sami and Mehrab contributed with a wicket each, sealing a dominant victory for Chattogram.
