Malan Denies Any Issue with Tamim: “Everything You Heard Is False”

Tamim Iqbal has been seen losing his temper frequently during the ongoing BPL, including altercations with Alex Hales of Rangpur Riders, Sabbir Ahmed of Dhaka Capitals, and even with his own teammate Dawid Malan.

On Sunday, January 19, during a match against Chittagong Kings, Tamim was dismissed following a misunderstanding with Malan, which led to Tamim angrily staring at Malan. Malan, in response, was also heard saying something in the heat of the moment.

After the match, there was considerable discussion and criticism about Tamim’s behavior. Responding to the rumors, the former Bangladesh captain took to Facebook, writing, “Many people have been asking me if there was any issue with Dawid Malan on the field. Apparently, there’s a lot of talk about it, but the truth is, nothing happened between Malan and me. Malan was actually responding to something said by an opponent, not me!”

Tamim further explained the situation, mentioning, “Misunderstandings between two batsmen on the field can happen. Expressing frustration right after getting out is normal. After I got run out, Malan apologized with a hand gesture, and I looked at him and walked off the field. We didn’t talk at all. One of the fielders from the opposing team said something near Malan, which he didn’t like, and Malan responded to that fielder, not me. Yet, people are making up stories that I had an issue with Malan!”

He also pointed out that many people form opinions based on brief TV clips, adding, “A lot of the time, people make assumptions after seeing just a few seconds on TV. This has happened regarding me recently. But incidents don’t happen suddenly; there’s always a backstory. There are many things that happen on the field that don’t come across fully on TV, and it’s not supposed to.”

Tamim concluded, “One shouldn’t form a final opinion just by watching a few moments on TV. The people involved in the incident, the ones who are on the field, they know the full story.”

In response to the incident, English batter Dawid Malan also clarified, stating, “There was no issue with Tamim at all. Everything you’ve heard is false.”
