Former cricketer Hannan Sarkar has stepped down from his role as a selector for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He resigned from his position on Sunday (February 2) afternoon, despite having a contract with BCB until 2026. However, he made the decision to leave within just a year of his appointment.
Hannan joined as an assistant selector to Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu on February 12 last year. According to BCB sources, his resignation was submitted with a one-month notice. He also confirmed his departure himself.
Hannan was appointed with a salary of BDT 1,25,000 per month, but he did not find the salary attractive. The former cricketer now intends to build a career in coaching.
“The position of selector is prestigious, but it is not financially sustainable. The salary is low, and the job is contract-based, so it is not suitable for me. I am interested in pursuing a coaching career, especially with the guidance of mentors like Mohammad Salahuddin Bhai. I hope to become the national team’s coach one day,” Hannan stated.
