On paper, Fortune Barishal is the strongest team in this season’s BPL, boasting a star-studded lineup of both local and international players. After securing their first title in the previous edition, they have now reached the final once again, aiming to defend their championship. Tamim Iqbal and his team will take the field in the BPL 11 final tomorrow at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium with the goal of retaining the title.
Fortune Barishal was the first team to secure a place in the final after defeating Chattogram Kings in the first qualifier. Throughout the tournament, they have been dominant, thanks to their team combination and bonding. Head Coach Mizanur Rahman Babul highlighted this in a media interaction yesterday.
Since the player draft in October, Barishal had been considered one of the title favorites. They retained key players from their championship-winning squad, including Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim, and secured Towhid Hridoy before the draft through direct signing. With their first pick in the draft, they added Mahmudullah and later strengthened the squad with players like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ebadot Hossain, and Rishad Hossain. Their foreign signings included stars like Kyle Mayers, Dawid Malan, and Mohammad Nabi. Now, they have made it to the final.
Following Wednesday’s practice session, Head Coach Babul said, “When we built the team, everyone said we would be champions. We built the team to win the championship. Looking at our team combination, it feels that way. Whether we can become champions or not will be determined on the 7th (final match day). We have reached the final. Our combination and team bonding have worked. From day one, we aimed to play in the final. We moved forward with that goal, and we have achieved it.”
