Soheli admitted to violating five clauses of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code. Her ban officially took effect on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Before Bangladesh’s match against Australia in the 2023 World Cup, Soheli allegedly sent a fixing-related message to a Bangladeshi player via mobile phone, offering a large sum of money. However, the player refused to engage in wrongdoing and immediately reported the matter to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).
Two years ago, during the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, Soheli, who was not part of the squad at the time, reportedly approached a national team member with a spot-fixing proposal. An audio recording of their conversation later surfaced, creating a major controversy in Bangladesh cricket. It was revealed that Soheli attempted to lure the World Cup squad member into illegal activities, but the player rejected the offer. The team member promptly informed the team management, who then notified the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The matter was soon reported to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).
Following a two-year investigation, the ACU has now announced a five-year ban on Soheli Akhter.
