In a crucial Champions Trophy match, Towhid Hridoy showcased a brilliant batting performance. During his innings, he suffered a muscle strain but persevered and reached the milestone of a century while limping.
Towhid Hridoy’s century, along with a responsible knock from Jaker Ali Anik, helped Bangladesh recover from a dire situation against India, posting a total of 228 runs despite losing five wickets for just 35 runs.
On Thursday, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh faced a strong Indian side in their second Champions Trophy match. Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first but soon found themselves in deep trouble, losing their top five batters for just 35 runs within 8.3 overs.
Amid this crisis, middle-order batsmen Jaker Ali Anik and Towhid Hridoy stepped up, putting together a crucial 154-run partnership off 206 balls for the sixth wicket. Their responsible batting helped Bangladesh recover and post a respectable total.
At one point, it seemed the target might cross 250, but the momentum slowed after Jaker Ali Anik was dismissed for 189 runs, giving away a catch.
Jaker Ali held one end, while at the other, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain played a quick cameo, smashing two sixes and a four to score 18 runs before getting out. However, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Taskin Ahmed couldn’t settle at the crease.
Two balls before the innings ended, Towhid Hridoy fell victim to Mohammad Shami’s fifth wicket, bringing Bangladesh’s innings to a close. Before getting out, Hridoy scored 100 runs off 118 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes.
