Shakib Al Hasan’s desire to play in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) disappeared in a single day. He had finalized discussions with Legends of Rupganj to participate in the tournament. He even submitted all the necessary paperwork to complete the transfer process.
However, on Sunday (February 23), Shakib changed his decision. He no longer wants to play in this tournament. On the second day of the transfer process, Rupganj sent a letter to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) requesting to withdraw Shakib’s name. CCDM Chairman Salauddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter to the media.
Since the political shift in the country on August 5 last year, Shakib has been in self-imposed exile. He is also facing a murder case. As a result, he has been unable to return to the country. Earlier, he wanted to play his farewell Test on home soil last October but couldn’t. Later, he signed up for Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), but he did not play there either.
So, when news spread that Shakib would play in the DPL, questions arose about whether he would actually return to the country for the tournament. In the end, those doubts proved to be true. It is likely that Shakib made this decision to avoid any complications regarding his return to the country.
