Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having led Mumbai Indians to five championship titles. Not only that, he has been a key figure in securing a total of six IPL titles. Alongside his captaincy success, Rohit has also shone with his individual performances—he is the second-highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament.
Yet, despite these impressive credentials, Rohit Sharma did not find a place in the all-time IPL XI.
Former South African star Shaun Pollock and Australian legend Adam Gilchrist selected the all-time greatest IPL XI based on individual performances over the tournament’s 18 seasons. The two ex-cricketers revealed their picks during a discussion on cricket website Cricbuzz, and surprisingly, Rohit was not included.
According to the batting order, the all-time IPL XI selected by Pollock and Gilchrist features Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli as openers.
Apart from Gayle, the four overseas players in the XI are AB de Villiers, spin all-rounder Sunil Narine, and fast bowler Lasith Malinga. The captaincy of the XI has been handed to MS Dhoni.
Here is the all-time IPL XI selected by Pollock and Gilchrist:
- Chris Gayle
- Virat Kohli
- Suresh Raina
- AB de Villiers
- Suryakumar Yadav
- MS Dhoni (captain)
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Sunil Narine
- Jasprit Bumrah
- Lasith Malinga
- Yuzvendra Chahal
