“Bangladesh Earns 87.6 Million Taka in This Cycle of the World Test Championship”

To further elevate the prestige of Test cricket, the ICC has made significant changes to the prize money for the World Test Championship. Before the final of the 2023–25 cycle, cricket’s governing body announced the new prize structure. According to the statement, Bangladesh has received USD 720,000 — approximately BDT 87.6 million — from the most recent Test Championship cycle.

This year’s WTC final will be held at Lord’s from June 11 to 15, where Australia and South Africa will face off in this high-stakes clash.

The winning team will receive USD 3.6 million (around BDT 440 million), while the runners-up will earn USD 2.16 million (about BDT 260 million).

Even teams that did not finish in the top two are being awarded sizable prize money. India, finishing third, will receive USD 1.4 million (around BDT 175 million). New Zealand, in fourth place, will get USD 1.2 million (around BDT 145 million).

Prize money has also been allocated for teams finishing between fifth and ninth. England will receive USD 960,000 (approx. BDT 115 million), Sri Lanka USD 840,000 (approx. BDT 105 million), and Bangladesh USD 720,000 — nearly BDT 87.6 million. West Indies, in eighth, will earn USD 600,000 (about BDT 70 million), and Pakistan, at the bottom, will receive USD 480,000 (roughly BDT 57.5 million).

Notably, Bangladesh’s performance in previous WTC cycles had been poor. In the 2019–21 season, they finished ninth without a single win. In the 2021–23 season, they managed only one victory and remained at the bottom. However, this time there has been some improvement. Bangladesh played 12 matches and secured 4 wins, including a series win in Pakistan — considered a major highlight of their campaign in this cycle.
