Hamza’s header and Sohel’s rocket help Bangladesh ease past Bhutan

When it comes to Bangladeshi football nowadays, the name that comes to mind first is Hamza Choudhury. He has been a major reason behind the recent surge of excitement in the country’s football scene. Hamza played on home soil for the first time — and did not disappoint the crowd at Dhaka’s National Stadium. He marked his home debut in style, scoring in the 6th minute and helping Bangladesh beat Bhutan 2-0. The second goal came from Sohel Rana’s powerful strike.

After 55 long months, football returned to the Dhaka National Stadium. It was the home debut for both Hamza Choudhury and Fahamedul Islam. Throughout the match, the gallery echoed with the chants of enthusiastic fans.

All eyes were on Hamza and Fahamedul during yesterday’s (June 4) match against Bhutan at the National Stadium — and they didn’t disappoint. In the 6th minute, Hamza Choudhury scored off a Jamal Bhuiyan assist, sending fans into a frenzy. It wasn’t just his first goal for Bangladesh — it was his first goal in international football as well.

In their last encounter, back in September of last year, Javier Cabrera’s men had lost 1-0 to Bhutan. With this win, the red-and-green brigade took sweet revenge.

Playing on home soil for the first time, Hamza lit up the pitch and once again won the hearts of the fans.
