“Let the discussions go on”—says Shanto

Rumors about Najmul Hossain Shanto stepping down from captaincy have been swirling for quite some time. Cricket website Cricbuzz reported that Shanto is set to resign from captaincy after the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka. Today, Shanto addressed the issue and urged fans and supporters not to overreact.

Cricbuzz, citing someone close to Shanto, claimed that he has already made up his mind about stepping down and is only waiting for the official announcement. Reportedly, he has also informed the BCB. However, during practice ahead of the Colombo Test, Shanto said he hasn’t thought seriously about the matter yet.

When asked about the captaincy issue before training in Colombo, the Tigers’ captain said:
“This discussion has been going on for a while, and it can continue. At this moment, I don’t want to comment on it. There’s a Test match in two days—I want to focus on that and perform well, both as a captain and a batter. Let this topic remain in the discussion space for now.”

A source commented:
“I don’t think Shanto will continue as captain after the Sri Lanka Test series. I’ve known him for a long time. From what has happened, I believe he’s not very happy.”

However, Shanto maintained:
“There is no such plan at the moment.”
He also requested fans not to overreact:
“I would like to request everyone not to create too much hype or controversy. We have a very important Test match ahead. I hope everyone focuses on how we can perform well in that.”
