Shakib Al Hasan is once again in the spotlight after delivering an all-round performance in a Global Super League (GSL) match. Rumors are circulating about his potential return to the national team, and now Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu has fueled those speculations.
Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. On the same day, Shakib Al Hasan made his debut for Dubai Capitals in the Global Super League and shone brightly. The star all-rounder led his team to victory with an outstanding performance, earning the Player of the Match award. Shakib scored 58 runs off 37 balls and was equally brilliant with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 13 runs.
Although he plays regularly in franchise leagues, Shakib has been away from the national team for a considerable time. Many thought his international career was nearing its end. However, BCB Director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu confirmed that the doors to the national team remain open for Shakib.
Speaking to the media at Mirpur on Saturday (July 12), Mithu said:
“Shakib Al Hasan is the greatest cricketer of Bangladesh. There is no second choice. The door is always open for him. But it depends on the selectors and the team management.”
Regarding Shakib’s possible return, Mithu added:
“I don’t know how things were handled in the past, but currently the BCB President has given full authority to Cricket Operations, the team management, and the selectors. They are aware of the situation. It will be looked into, and they will surely consider it.”
