The Bangladesh women’s football team is set to make more history this October.

For the very first time, the red-and-green representatives have qualified for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup main stage, and with this achievement comes the exciting prospect of aiming for a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Asian Cup will be held in March next year in Australia, and preparations are already underway. As part of the buildup, Peter Butler’s charges will play two international friendlies in Thailand during the FIFA women’s window on October 25 and 28.

On Tuesday (August 26), Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, head of BFF’s women’s wing, confirmed to the media:
“In the October FIFA women’s window we will play two matches in Thailand. This has been finalized. In the November window, we are trying to host a tri-nation tournament in Dhaka. For that, we have already sent letters to Vietnam and some other teams.”

After the Thailand friendlies, the Bangladesh team will travel to Japan for about three weeks of training, though no matches are scheduled there. Kiron added:
“Just like October, we will also play two matches in the November window. On the way to Australia, we might play in Singapore, Hong Kong, or Malaysia—or possibly even in New Zealand—before heading to the Asian Cup.”

The U-20 women’s team, which has also qualified for the Asian Cup to be held in Thailand next March, will train alongside the senior squad in Japan. Kiron explained:
“Some of the U-20 players will join the senior team for both training and matches.”

This historic qualification marks the beginning of a new era for Bangladesh women’s football. The next big goal is to secure a ticket to the 2027 Women’s World Cup, and sports fans across the country are eagerly awaiting the team’s upcoming fixtures.
