“Nahid Rana: From 150 km/h Sensation to Slower Stride – What Went Wrong?”

Since his debut, Nahid Rana has been a talk of the town. He became the first Bangladeshi bowler to bowl at 150 km/h—a mighty achievement that earned praise both at home and abroad. Many even believed he could follow in the footsteps of Taskin and Mustafizur as Bangladesh’s next big fast‑bowling star.

But then things changed. His form dipped, his bowling speed dropped, and he missed out on the Asia Cup team. After just 9 Tests, 4 ODIs, and 1 T20 match, his sudden slowdown surprised many.

In an interview, chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu shared what he observed: ‘He seems to have lost control of his line and length. He also appears to struggle with adapting to different match situations.’

Lipu added, ‘It seems he may think that if he slows down a bit, he can play for longer. Now he’s bowling at 139–142 km/h, which is why he doesn’t seem as threatening to batsmen anymore.’Despite these challenges, he’s hard-working and listens well. Given the right support and coaching, there’s hope he can find his old pace and rhythm again.
