A new regional cricket tournament was inaugurated in Chattogram under the initiative of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The opening ceremony was attended by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, alongside board director and former national captains Akram Khan and Habibul Bashar Sumon.
Addressing the media on Thursday, August 28, Bulbul said:
“The future Tamims, Shakibs, Mushfiqs, and Riyads are all still in school. It is our responsibility to identify and nurture these talents. School cricket has existed for many years, but this time we are launching it with renewed purpose. Through this, we will not only create opportunities for young cricketers but also help cultivate a nationwide cricket fanbase.”
The BCB chief emphasized that the initiative goes beyond player development, aiming to strengthen cricket culture and training infrastructure across the country. He explained:
“This is not just about matches—it is about discovering super talents. The idea had been in the planning stage, and Akram Khan and his team have worked to bring it to life. Decentralization should not only be about competition; every district has its own cricketing identity that must be allowed to flourish. Strong players from the grassroots can rise to the district level, ensuring that a district does not merely have a team, but a complete cricketing family—with physios, trainers, and full support staff.”
He concluded by reiterating the vision:
“The next Tamims, Shakibs, Mushfiqs, and Riyads are still in school. Finding and developing them is our responsibility. That is why we are revamping school cricket in a new way.”
