After much drama, boycotts, counter-allegations, and last-minute withdrawals of candidacies, the long-awaited Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election is finally underway. Voting began at 10 a.m. on Monday (October 6) at the Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka under tight security and will continue until 4 p.m.
Current BCB member and director candidate Aminul Islam Bulbul cast his vote in the morning. Speaking to the media about his voting experience, he said,
“I’ve never taken part in an election before, nor have I ever voted in one. So everything feels new to me. My former teammates, representatives from different districts and clubs are all here. There’s definitely a sense of excitement. Let’s see what happens.”
Bulbul said he would comment on the voting atmosphere later, stating,
“Since this is my first election experience, I’ll talk about the environment after the voting ends. A lot depends on the results.”
According to the election schedule, the preliminary results for the board director positions will be announced at 6 p.m. Later, in a meeting of the newly elected board of directors, the new BCB president and two vice presidents will be selected. The results of the president and vice-presidents’ election are expected to be announced at 9 p.m.
