Bulbul Selling Land to Make Ends Meet — No Salary for the BCB President

Aminul Islam Bulbul left his job at the International Cricket Council (ICC) to become the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). But the reality is that the position of BCB president carries no salary. The newly appointed head of Bangladesh cricket has been devoting all his time — day and night — to the game. However, he has no monthly income and no business ventures in the country. This has raised a natural question: how is Bulbul running his household?

In an interview with a private television channel, Bulbul explained the matter candidly. He said,

“I’m giving my full time to cricket. I had a piece of land in Ashulia — I sold it, and I’m living off that.”

But how long can one survive on the money from selling land? A steady source of income is necessary to sustain a living. Bulbul replied with a laugh,

“Well, if I ever go hungry, you can feed me! (laughs) I’ll have to do something eventually, though I haven’t really thought about what yet.”

He went on to add,

“At one point, I used to do business. For about three to four months, I worked in steel construction for mobile towers — it was going well. But once I joined Abahani as a coach, I left that behind.”

Bulbul also recalled that during his playing days, he was owed money by Mohammedan Sporting Club. Jokingly, he said,

“Mohammedan still owes me 2 lakh 40 thousand taka. Whenever I go there to ask for it, I just end up having lunch and leaving! Their hospitality is wonderful.”

Concluding his remarks, Bulbul said,

“Now that I’ve taken on this responsibility, I want to continue the development trend I’ve been seeing in our cricket.”
