“If Barishal plays in the BPL, Tamim will play too,” says a confident Barishal.

Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has recently been in the spotlight after announcing that he would be boycotting cricket. On October 6, he had also been a candidate for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) presidency, but eventually withdrew his nomination amid various dramatic developments.

Even after the election, Tamim has remained active and vocal on various administrative issues connected to a large portion of the country’s club cricket. Many assumed that he might not take part in this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

However, Fortune Barishal’s owner, Mizanur Rahman, has dismissed that assumption. He stated that if Barishal participates in the BPL, Tamim will definitely play wearing the team’s jersey.

In an interview, Mizanur said, “I don’t think Tamim will skip the BPL. I believe he made the boycott comment in a general sense. If the BPL takes place, I will certainly request him to play. And if Barishal participates, he will definitely play for us.”

Tamim captained Barishal in the previous edition of the BPL. The experienced opener’s absence on the field would certainly weaken Barishal—a fact well understood by team owner Mizanur Rahman. Hence, he has asked for more time and preparation opportunities before entering the tournament.

Mizanur added, “Even if we have players, bringing them in requires ensuring funds, contracts, and logistics. That’s not possible within just one or one and a half months. So, I’ve requested that the schedule be pushed back. Let’s see what decision the BCB makes.”

He further said, “I don’t think any team would want to take the field within such a short time frame. You can even ask Rangpur—they’re probably in the same situation.”
