The two arch-rivals of Asia — India and Pakistan — are set to meet once more. A clash between these two teams always brings an extra layer of excitement and tension.
In recent times, political unrest and border tensions between the two countries have heavily affected sports. The impact has been especially visible in cricket. During the last Asia Cup, the strained relationship between the two nations was reflected on the field as well, fueling heightened anticipation among fans worldwide.
Since there are no bilateral series between India and Pakistan, fans have to wait for ACC or ICC events to see these two teams face each other. However, this time, the meeting will happen outside national team competitions.
Former and current cricketers from both countries will participate in the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes Tournament, which will be held at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground on November 7. Both India and Pakistan will take part in this exciting event.
A total of 12 teams will play in this tournament. Each match will be five overs per side, and six players will take the field for each team. Pakistan has already announced its squad, with Abbas Afridi as captain, while Dinesh Karthik will lead the Indian team.
Karthik said, “It’s a huge honor to lead the Indian team. The Hong Kong Sixes is a tournament rich in both history and prestige. We want to play a brand of cricket that every spectator will enjoy—bold, fearless, and full of fun.”
Organizers believe that Karthik’s presence will attract even more global attention to the tournament.
In men’s Asia Cup matches held in Dubai, India defeated Pakistan in all three encounters. The Indian women’s team also achieved the same feat against Pakistan in the recent World Cup in Colombo. Hence, in the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes, Karthik’s men will be eyeing their fifth consecutive win over Pakistan.
