Ahead of the Test series against Ireland, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the name of the Test team captain. The rumor had already been circulating, and now the BCB has officially confirmed it — Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh in Test cricket until 2027.
Shanto will remain Bangladesh’s Test captain for the remainder of the ongoing 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Since being appointed Test captain in 2023, he has led Bangladesh in 14 Tests before stepping down from the role in June this year.
Regarding Shanto’s reappointment, BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul said,
“The Board has full confidence in Shanto’s leadership and wants to maintain continuity in red-ball cricket under him.”
He added,
“Shanto has shown great patience, dedication, and a deep understanding of Test cricket. The team has been improving steadily under his captaincy. We believe maintaining leadership continuity will help the team mature further in this cycle.”
Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to continue as captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto said,
“It’s the greatest honor of my life to continue as captain of the Bangladesh Test team. I’m grateful to the Board for the trust and confidence they have shown in me. I’ll do my utmost to uphold the dignity of this responsibility.”
The first Test against Ireland will begin in Sylhet on November 11, while the second Test will take place at Mirpur in Dhaka from November 19.
