Liton surpasses Mushfiqur’s record

Liton Das has set a new record for the most stumpings by a Bangladeshi wicketkeeper in Test cricket, surpassing Mushfiqur Rahim’s tally of 15 on the opening day of the Sylhet Test.

Bangladesh’s experienced cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim’s record has been broken, as Liton Kumar Das has made history by becoming the Bangladeshi wicketkeeper with the highest number of stumpings in Tests.

In June, during the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, Liton stumped Sri Lankan opener Lahiru Udara, equalling Mushfiqur Rahim’s record of 15 stumpings in Test cricket.

Today, Tuesday, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Liton went past Mushfiqur’s record by stumping Lorcan Tucker off the bowling of Hasan Murad. Later, in the 17th over, he made another stumping—dismissing Andy McBrine off Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s delivery.

Across all formats, Mushfiqur Rahim still holds the overall Bangladeshi record for most stumpings, with 101. In the global list, Mushfiqur ranks fourth—behind India’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni (195), and Sri Lankan greats Kumar Sangakkara (139) and Romesh Kaluwitharana (101).

Among Bangladeshi wicketkeepers, former captain Khaled Mashud Pilot sits second with 44 stumpings across formats, followed by Liton in third place with 34.

The all-time Test record for most stumpings belongs to Australia’s Bert Oldfield, who made 52 stumpings in 54 Tests between 1920 and 1937.
