Taijul dethrones Shakib

Taijul Islam produced magic once again at Mirpur. Taking four wickets, he dismantled Ireland. But this spell also brought him a record—he has taken away Shakib’s throne.

On the second day of the Mirpur Test, Taijul picked up one wicket. Just before the lunch break today, he took two more. After the break, he struck again. And with that, the record was set.

Taijul Islam is now the highest wicket-taker in Bangladesh’s Test history. Shakib Al Hasan is alongside him — both now have 246 wickets. However, Taijul has surpassed Shakib in one aspect: the number of matches. Shakib reached 246 wickets in 71 Test matches, while Taijul matched the tally in just 57 Tests.

At the start of the series against Ireland, Taijul had 237 wickets. He took 5 wickets in the first Test and 4 wickets in the first innings of the second Test, taking his total to 246 — drawing level with Shakib. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is third on the list with 205 wickets from 54 Tests. The next two positions belong to Mohammad Rafique (100) and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (78).
