Franchises have picked up local cricketers from the players’ auction for the 12th edition of the BPL. Six franchises took part—Dhaka Capitals, Rangpur Riders, Chattogram Royals, Sylhet Titans, Rajshahi Warriors, and Noakhali Express. The auction was held on Sunday (30 November) evening at the Radisson Hotel.
At last, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad have been signed. Both experienced cricketers went unsold in the first call.
According to the rules, Mushfiq and Mahmudullah—who were in the ‘B’ category with a base price of 35 lakh taka—were supposed to be put up again in the ‘C’ category with a base price of 22 lakh taka. But out of ‘respect’ for them, that was not done.
Mahmudullah was bought by Rangpur Riders for the base price of 35 lakh taka, and Mushfiqur Rahim was picked by Rajshahi Warriors for the same amount.
Another experienced cricketer, Mominul Haque, also went unsold in the first call. He was later taken by Sylhet Titans for the base price of 22 lakh taka.
Earlier, after going unsold, Mushfiqur Rahim wrote on Facebook, “Alhamdulillah for everything.” But no reaction has been found from Mahmudullah Riyad.
