If all goes well, the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will begin on the 26th of this month. An American professional event management company has been given the responsibility of managing this year’s BPL event. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is being very cautious about broadcasting. To resolve commentary-related issues, the BCB is planning to bring in internationally renowned commentators such as Danny Morrison, Waqar Younis, Ramiz Raja, and Parvez Maharoof. According to BCB sources, they will provide commentary alongside local commentators in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, although there was a plan to start the upcoming BPL season with the Sylhet phase, the BCB has decided to abandon that idea. Sources say that Sylhet becomes very crowded with tourists during this time of December because it is a popular tourist destination. As a result, hotel-related issues might arise there. For this reason, like previous seasons, this year’s BPL will also start in Dhaka.
After starting in Dhaka, matches will be played in Sylhet and Chattogram. Although there were talks of increasing the number of venues this year, it was ultimately not possible due to various circumstances. Six teams are participating in this year’s BPL. They finalized their squads at the auction held on 30 November. Apart from the auction, each team was also allowed to sign up to four players directly. The upcoming edition of the BPL will begin on 26 December.
