Last Thursday, Shoaib Akhtar wrote on social media, “Dhaka — I’m coming after a long time.” That day arrived quickly. The former Pakistani pace legend landed in Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday.
During his playing career, he visited Bangladesh several times, but that chapter ended long ago. Now 50 years old, the former fast bowler has arrived in a new role. He will serve as the mentor of BPL franchise Dhaka Capitals in the upcoming season.
Dhaka Capitals view the inclusion of Shoaib Akhtar—popularly known as the “Rawalpindi Express”—as a major step forward for the team. Ahead of the new season, the franchise aims to build a stronger and more disciplined squad, and that is why the experienced pacer has been appointed as mentor.
Shoaib Akhtar brings vast international cricket experience. The team management believes his winning mentality and leadership qualities will benefit the side. He is expected to guide the players both on and off the field.
Dhaka Capitals and Remark HB are optimistic about the upcoming season and are looking forward to an exciting campaign under Shoaib Akhtar’s mentorship.
The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League will begin on 26 December. Dhaka Capitals will play their first match the following day against Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Stadium.
