The IPL auction always brings excitement, calculations, and thrilling discussions about player salaries. As always, during the 2026 IPL mini-auction, Bangladeshi cricket fans were keenly focused on players from their own country. At the center of the discussion was left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who created new history.
Since its inception in 2008, this popular T20 tournament has enjoyed immense popularity. For a long time, two Bangladeshi star cricketers—Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman—have featured regularly in the IPL. In every IPL season, Bangladeshi fans closely follow which team Shakib and Mustafizur join and for how much.
In this year’s auction, Mustafizur, whose base price was 2 crore rupees, was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for 9 crore 20 lakh rupees. This is the highest price ever paid for a Bangladeshi player in an IPL auction. In Bangladeshi currency, the amount is approximately 12 crore 37 lakh taka.
Previously, the record for the highest price paid for a Bangladeshi player in the IPL belonged to former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. In the 2009 IPL, he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for 600,000 US dollars, which at the current exchange rate is about 5 crore 45 lakh rupees, or roughly 7 crore 33 lakh Bangladeshi taka.
Another Bangladeshi star, Shakib Al Hasan, played for Kolkata in the 2015 IPL after being bought for 2 crore 80 lakh rupees. The all-rounder, who has played in nine IPL seasons, was not included in the shortlist for this year’s auction.
