Mohammad Salahuddin has returned as a coach for the national team. Previously, from 2006 to 2010, he served as a fielding and assistant coach for the team. This time, his position is Senior Assistant Coach. Salahuddin has joined the national team under a contract until March.
In his first tenure with the team, Salahuddin played a crucial role in guiding future stars of that era, such as Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah, toward success. That generation is now nearing the end of their careers, presenting Salahuddin with an opportunity to build a new generation of players for Bangladesh cricket.
In his first press conference at the academy ground of Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium after taking charge, Salahuddin outlined his goals, saying, “If I can help another generation, it will make me feel good because if you just acquire knowledge but don’t light a lamp for others, that wouldn’t be right. If I can do this well, even if it’s just a little help, I think it will be worthwhile.”
At the end of this month, the Bangladesh team is set to tour the West Indies for a full series. Salahuddin will officially begin his work with the team through this series. He was seen training Test squad players at the Mirpur academy ground.
Outlining his approach for his second tenure with the national team, Salahuddin said, “Since I am the assistant coach, and we have a head coach, my role is to support his vision… how he runs the team, and to assist the players as much as I can. My role might be different compared to my previous tenure.”
He further added that he would work to boost the players’ confidence and emphasized the importance of maintaining a collaborative relationship with foreign coaches.
