Just a day before the highly anticipated IPL 2024 mega auction, two Indian cricketers, Manish Pandey and Srijit Krishna, have been banned due to suspect bowling actions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has flagged their actions as suspicious, which has led to their suspension.
Additionally, Deepak Hooda, Saurabh Dubey, and KC Cariappa have also been placed under scrutiny for their bowling actions. The BCCI has informed all IPL franchises about these players in advance of the auction. None of the five players were retained by any franchise before the auction, but they were strong contenders to secure teams in the bidding process. With this announcement, teams may reconsider picking them in the auction.
The IPL mega auction is scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, tomorrow (Sunday), with 575 players being presented for bidding over two days. Among them, 366 are Indian players, and the remaining 209 are international. Notably, 12 players from Bangladesh are also included in the pool.
The tournament will kick off on March 14, 2024, and conclude with the final on May 25, 2024, marking over two months of exciting cricket. Organizers are optimistic that this edition will surpass all previous ones in terms of popularity and spectacle.
