The Zia Cricket Tournament 2024 will bring a resurgence in the nation’s sports arena, said BNP’s central organizing secretary, Mahbubur Rahman Shamim. He made this remark while visiting the venue at MA Aziz Stadium on Sunday at 4 PM.
This tournament is being held in 10 venues across the country, with the Chattogram venue hosting its matches on November 30 at MA Aziz Stadium. Mahbubur Rahman Shamim noted that in 1971, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had proclaimed independence from Chattogram and had actively participated in the war as a frontline warrior, ultimately bringing independence to the nation. Hence, he emphasized the spiritual bond between the people of Chattogram and Ziaur Rahman.
The announcement of Chattogram hosting games in the Zia Cricket Tournament has brought immense joy to the local people. It has sparked enthusiasm in various districts and upazilas across the Chattogram Division. He mentioned that this tournament has revitalized the long-dormant sports sector, instilling new energy. He expressed hope that this event would lead to a nationwide awakening in sports. He also assured that, under a future BNP government, significant initiatives would be taken to improve the standard of sports.
Present during the event were Abul Hashem Bakkar, former General Secretary of Chattogram Metropolitan BNP, Mashiul Alam Swapan, convener of the Chattogram management committee for the Zia Cricket Tournament, committee member and hospitality subcommittee convener Shah Alam, media committee convener R.U.
