The IPL auction turned out to be disappointing for Bangladeshi cricketers. Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain were included in the auction, but no team showed interest in either of them. Moreover, prominent players like Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, and Taskin Ahmed were not even called during the auction. Even Shakib Al Hasan, who has had the longest IPL career among Bangladeshi players, was excluded from the list.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz faced a similar fate, with no franchise expressing interest in him. A total of 12 Bangladeshi players had registered for the IPL auction, but none managed to secure a spot. Mustafizur Rahman, who had played for Chennai Super Kings last season with a base price of ₹2 crore, performed reasonably well, taking 14 wickets in 9 matches. Despite this, Chennai chose not to retain him, and this year, no team bid for him.
Mustafizur had started his IPL journey with a sensational season in 2016 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, playing a crucial role in their championship victory and earning the Emerging Player of the Year award. However, his IPL career has been inconsistent since then, with stints at Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals, where he struggled to secure a regular place in the playing XI. Despite his impressive performance last season, his bowling, which suits Chennai’s conditions, failed to attract any bidders this time.
