Bangladesh cricket’s biggest star, Shakib Al Hasan, has added numerous accolades to his name, contributing immensely to the country’s cricketing success. The former national team captain has earned the title of the world’s best all-rounder while also facing challenges like suspension by the ICC, controversies over his political affiliations, allegations of irregularities in the stock market, and even legal cases post-government transitions.
Amidst all this, there was one experience Shakib had yet to encounter—getting his bowling action tested under scrutiny. Recently, he underwent this at the medical department of Loughborough University near Birmingham, England. According to a report by a leading Bangladeshi daily citing sources close to Shakib, he bowled four overs under expert observation during the examination and remains optimistic about the results, expected within seven days. Following the testing, Shakib is scheduled to depart for the United States today (December 3).
The concerns about Shakib’s bowling action surfaced during a county match for Somerset against an opposing team before the India tour. Shakib had bowled 60 overs in that match, claiming nine wickets. On-field umpires David Milns and Steve O’Shaughnessy officiated the game. However, it remains unclear who raised the suspicion regarding his action. Notably, this county appearance marked Shakib’s return to the league after the 2011-12 season. The report about his action came almost two months after the match.
