Head coach Phil Simmons sees a significant role in Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s captaincy.

Bangladesh’s head coach, Phil Simmons, sees a significant role in Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s captaincy for the team’s victory in the Jamaica Test, where they defeated the West Indies by 101 runs. This win leveled the series 1-1 for the Tigers.

Expressing his admiration for Miraz, Simmons said, “I am impressed by him. He took over the captaincy from Shanto on short notice, assumed the responsibility, and led the team effectively. Mehidy and Taijul complemented each other well. Miraz’s quicker scoring and varied tactics stood out.”

In the second innings, Bangladesh played aggressively, adapting to the situation, which helped them score runs quickly. Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, in particular, showcased remarkable batting performances. Simmons expressed his delight at their approach, stating, “I liked the positive mindset the batters brought. In recent matches, they showed resilience, but on the third day, they made it clear, ‘We’re here to play.’ I appreciate and enjoy such attitudes. They understand this is how we need to play moving forward.”

He added, “The young players had been waiting for a Test win. Watching them bounce back after losing the first Test feels great. This victory is incredibly satisfying for me.”
