Rickelton’s Century Shines as SA Dominates Day-1

South Africa tour of Sri Lanka in 2024,the second test match held at Qeberha, South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first. On the first day of the match, South Africa scored 269 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Top-order batsman Ryan Rickelton achieved his maiden Test century against Sri Lanka, scoring 101 runs off 250 balls, which included 11 fours. His impressive innings ended when he attempted to play a shot to a sharp back-of-a-length ball outside off-stump, resulting in a thick outside edge that was brilliantly caught at gully.

In the early stages of the innings, Tony de Zorzi was dismissed for a golden duck, falling victim to Ashitha Fernando’s inswinging yorker, which struck his front leg. The umpire raised his finger, but de Zorzi referred the decision to the third umpire. The review confirmed that the ball had impacted in line and was just clipping the outside of the leg stump. Aiden Markram managed to score only 20 runs before he was bowled by Kumara, who pitched the ball outside off-stump. Markram misjudged the length, and the ball found its way to the stumps.

Middle-order batsmen Tristan Stubbs and David Beddingham also struggled with their batting, with Stubbs scoring just 4 runs and Beddingham getting dismissed for 6 runs. South Africa lost their first wicket at the very beginning of the match, then their second wicket at 32 for 2, followed by the third at 44 for 3. However, Ryan Rickelton and captain Temba Bavuma steadied the innings, putting together a crucial fourth-wicket partnership of 133 runs. This partnership helped shift the momentum away from the Sri Lankan side. make two news title on it
