This season of the IPL has seen one record after another. T20 cricket is synonymous with run-fests, and the world’s most popular T20 franchise league — the Indian Premier League (IPL) — is no exception. Every year, new records are made in terms of scoring, and this year, the IPL has witnessed an unbelievable record of team totals crossing 200.
In the latest match, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a mammoth 231 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore. With that, this season has now seen teams scoring 200 or more a staggering 42 times — the highest ever in a single IPL season.
There’s little doubt that this record will cross the 50-mark, as the season is not yet over — 9 matches still remain.
Previously, the record for most 200+ team totals in a single season was 41, set just last year. In 2023, teams crossed the 200-run mark 37 times, and in 2022, it happened 18 times.
So far this season, Gujarat Titans have scored 200 or more runs the most — 7 times. Punjab Kings have done it in 6 innings. Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals have each done it 5 times.
Notably, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians have already secured spots in the playoffs. The playoff stage is set to begin on May 29, and the final will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
