Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two of the finest stars in Indian cricket. After winning the last T20 World Cup, both of them retired from the T20 format. Recently, even while the IPL was ongoing, they announced their retirement from Test cricket. As a result, the Indian Cricket Board did not get the opportunity to organize a farewell for them. However, Cricket Australia (CA) has stepped forward with plans to bid them farewell on home soil. CA is planning a grand farewell ceremony for Kohli and Rohit—something the BCCI could not do. Although the idea is still in its early stages, preparations are underway.
Later this year, India is set to tour Australia. During this tour, India might play three ODIs and five T20Is against the Aussies. This series could mark the final time Kohli and Rohit play on Australian soil. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg hinted that several special preparations are being made to boost interest in cricket during this time. One such initiative could be a farewell tribute to Kohli and Rohit.
Speaking to the media, Greenberg said, “For the first time in nearly two decades, every capital city and region in Australia is set to host international matches. We are working on unique marketing plans for each city.”
Regarding the farewell for Rohit and Kohli, Greenberg added, “When we think about the quality of players coming from India, this might be the last chance we get to see Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our country. It’s not confirmed, but if it is true, we definitely want to acknowledge their incredible international contributions and give them a wonderful send-off.”
