Former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team and ex-MP of Magura-1 constituency, Shakib Al Hasan, has been sued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of embezzling hundreds of crores of takas from the stock market through fraud. Alongside Shakib, 14 others have also been named as accused in the case.
The information was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon by Md. Akhter Hossain, Director General of the ACC. The case was filed by ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain.
Earlier, on Monday, a court issued a travel ban on all 15 accused, including Shakib Al Hasan.
The other accused include:

They are accused of embezzling a total of Tk 256.97 crore (approximately $23 million).
According to the case statement, the accused, in collusion with each other, engaged in criminal conspiracy and abuse of power with dishonest intent to gain quick financial benefit. They willfully violated laws and regulations related to stock market investments (Section 17 of the Securities and Exchange Ordinance, 1961), and carried out multiple unethical, illegal, and speculative transactions similar to gambling, spreading rumors, and manipulating the market for personal gain using their BO (Beneficiary Owner) accounts.
Md. Akhter Hossain further stated that Shakib Al Hasan invested in shares of three companies and was involved in market manipulation activities.
Back in April, the ACC initiated an inquiry against Shakib, focusing on allegations of money laundering and accumulating wealth beyond known sources of income. A two-member team led by ACC Deputy Director Mahbubul Alam was formed to carry out the investigation.
Notably, Shakib had previously worked with the ACC as a brand ambassador starting in 2018. He was also involved in the launch of the ACC’s hotline 106. However, in 2022, following allegations of irregularities, the ACC publicly announced that Shakib would no longer continue in the ambassador role.
