Sylhet Strikers endured a disappointing season in the BPL, winning only 2 out of their 12 matches. To make matters worse, their captain, Ariful Haque, is now facing allegations of match-fixing.
On Thursday (January 30), Sylhet suffered a 96-run defeat against Chattogram Kings. Following the match, the team’s coach, Mahmud Imon, addressed the media. When asked about the fixing allegations against Ariful, he responded, “The authorities will take action based on evidence. There is a separate department for this, and they will handle it.”
Regarding the team’s poor performance, Imon commented, “Our start was within expectations. I wouldn’t call it bad—from team formation to everything else. We had some big games in Sylhet at the beginning. On paper, Rangpur and Barishal seemed strong, though I don’t fully believe in that in T20 cricket.”
Imon further mentioned that key players underperformed, saying, “Those we had high expectations from were inconsistent. If they had performed well, things might have been different. This was our first BPL, and the points table reflects our struggles.”
