There is no annual calendar for BCB, BFF, the National Sports Council, or even at district level. A 5-, 10-, or 12-year calendar must be prepared. If this is done, no club will face scheduling conflicts, said Asif Akbar.
Yesterday afternoon, during a visit to Kurigram Stadium, BCB Director and Chairman of the Age-Group Committee Asif Akbar made these remarks. As part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s northern region tour to inspect various venues for the development of players aged 14 to 18, he arrived at the Kurigram Stadium in the afternoon.
After inspecting the field, the Kurigram District Sports Association organized an exchange meeting with cricketers and sports organizers. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Asaduzzaman, on behalf of the district administrator, with Mohammad Asif Akbar attending as the chief guest. Cricketers of various age groups and leaders of different sports organizations in the district were present.
To avoid the recurring conflict between football and cricket activities over ground usage, Asif Akbar offered a solution:
“There is no annual calendar for BCB, BFF, or district-level national events. We must prepare annual calendars covering 5, 10, or even 12 years. If this is planned properly, BCB will face no issues in organizing matches, and neither will BFF. Our goal is to ensure cricket for the younger generation and spread the sport across all educational institutions. Preparations for creating annual and long-term plans are underway.”
He added that a survey is being conducted to ensure that players can play 15 to 22 matches within eight months. Efforts are ongoing to organize 6 to 7 age-group tournaments at the national level. As part of this initiative, the Prime Bank School Tournament will begin soon.
“We want to ensure cricket for the youth and spread the sport to every educational institution in the country,” he said.
He also spoke during the age-group cricket development campaign and with young cricketers. Asif Akbar concluded:
“A new time has come, a new Bangladesh has emerged. I and the BCB stand with you.”
