“Another Session of Frustration for Bangladesh”

Bangladesh showed dominance in Galle until the final day, with the game under their control. But in the ongoing second Test in Colombo, the team is nowhere near competitive. After being bowled out for just 247 runs, the Bangladeshis are now witnessing Sri Lankan batters taking full control. The second session of Day 2 also ended in disappointment for Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team, as Sri Lanka reached 190 for 1.

Bangladesh had just one moment of success in the session. The Lankan opening partnership was broken at 88 runs. In the 24th over of the innings, Taijul Islam came into the attack. On the third delivery, opener Lahiru Udara attempted a defensive shot. However, the ball struck his pad before making contact with the bat. Taijul made a strong appeal, but debutant umpire Prageeth Rambukwella was unmoved. Taijul then opted for a review. The replay showed the ball hit the pad before the bat, and the pitching, impact, and hitting all lit up red — confirming Bangladesh’s breakthrough. The Lankan opening stand ended at 88 runs.

Bangladesh came very close to another success soon after. In the 37th over, Dinesh Chandimal was nearly trapped LBW by Taijul Islam. The umpire initially raised his finger in response to the appeal, but a review saved Chandimal.

After that, both Chandimal and Pathum Nissanka gave Bangladesh very few chances, if any.
