A year ago, Bangladesh’s U-19 team clinched their first-ever Asia Cup title by defeating the UAE in the final. Exactly one year later, at the same venue, they repeated the feat, this time against arch-rivals India. On Sunday (December 8), at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh defeated India by 59 runs in the U-19 Asia Cup final, avenging their 2019 final defeat against the same opponents.
After winning the toss, India opted to field first. Bangladesh struggled to post a big total and were bowled out for 198 in 49.1 overs. Rizan Hossain top-scored with 47 off 65 balls, while Shihab James contributed 49 off 67 balls and Farid Hasan added 39 off 49 balls.
Chasing a target of 199, India got off to a poor start, losing three wickets for just 44 runs. Bangladesh’s pacers were relentless, dismissing Ayush Mahatari for 1, Vaibhav Suryavanshi for 9, and Andre Siddharth for 20.
Captain Mohammad Aman and Kartya tried to stabilize the innings, but Kartya fell for 21 off 43 balls at the team score of 73. The Indian middle-order collapsed under pressure, with Harvans Pangalia scoring 6, Kiran Choramel 1, and Nikhil Kumar departing without scoring.
Aman and Hardik Raj attempted a fightback with a 34-run partnership, but Aman’s dismissal for 26 off 65 balls at the score of 115 dashed India’s hopes. India were eventually bowled out for 139 in 35.2 overs, handing Bangladesh a memorable victory.
With this win, the young Tigers celebrated their second consecutive U-19 Asia Cup title, cementing their dominance in the region.
