The second friendly football match between Bangladesh and Nepal has been canceled due to ongoing political unrest and violence in Nepal. The match was scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu, but the organizers have announced its cancellation citing security concerns. Bangladesh team manager Amer Khan has also confirmed the news.
The match was called off on Tuesday due to violent unrest stemming from the Gen-Z movement in Nepal. The movement began with demands to lift the ban on social media, which has effectively brought the country to a standstill. Thousands of protesters stormed Nepal’s parliament building, and so far, 14 people have been reported killed in clashes between demonstrators and police.
This turmoil has put the Bangladesh national football team in a difficult position. The team, led by Jamal Bhuyan, is currently in Nepal to play a two-match FIFA friendly series. Bangladesh already played the first match against Nepal on September 6. The second match was scheduled for Tuesday, but it has now been canceled in light of the situation.
Earlier today (Monday) at 3 p.m., the team could not leave their hotel for a scheduled practice session at the Dasharath Stadium.
The first match of the series ended in a goalless draw.
