Bangladesh-Pakistan Match Washed Out by Rain

Both Bangladesh and Pakistan were already out of the race for the semi-finals. Their match today was merely a formality, and perhaps the gloomy sky over Rawalpindi reflected the mood. Due to persistent rain, the match was abandoned.

Earlier, in this same venue, the Australia-South Africa match was also washed out on Tuesday due to rainy weather. Now, the Bangladesh-Pakistan match has met the same fate. With this abandonment, both Bangladesh and the host team, Pakistan, remained winless in the tournament. Each team received one point from the match. For Bangladesh, this solitary point was their only achievement in the tournament.

The match was scheduled to begin at 3 PM on Thursday (February 27). However, the weather department had already forecasted rain. The drizzle gradually intensified, leading to an early decision to call off the game.

Bangladesh and Pakistan’s elimination was confirmed after Bangladesh’s defeat against New Zealand. From this group, India and New Zealand have advanced to the semi-finals.

So far, Bangladesh and Pakistan have faced each other 39 times in ODIs. Among them, Bangladesh has won only 5 matches, while Pakistan has emerged victorious in 34. In ICC events, Bangladesh’s only win against Pakistan came in the 1999 World Cup. Bangladesh has never won a match on Pakistani soil, losing all 12 encounters. This was also the first time the two teams met in an ICC Champions Trophy match.
