Bangladesh Receives Tk 80.7 Million as ‘Event Host Fee’ Despite Not Hosting the World Cup

Despite not hosting the tournament, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a significant amount of money. Bangladesh was initially awarded the hosting rights for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. However, due to political changes and security concerns, the event was relocated at the last moment to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Although the tournament could not be held in Bangladesh, the BCB was still entitled to an “event host fee” under ICC regulations, amounting to Tk 80,695,500 (approximately 8.07 crore taka).

Additionally, BCB earned revenue from ticket sales. Although the venue was shifted to the UAE, and Bangladesh did not receive the expected ticket revenue, an agreement with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) ensured that BCB received 55% of the ticket sales.

According to ICC data, total ticket sales amounted to 659,595.18 dirhams, from which BCB received 330,327.35 dirhams. In US dollars, that equals $73,642—approximately Tk 10,695,500 in Bangladeshi currency.

The Bangladesh women’s team’s prize money was also included in BCB’s earnings. Despite being eliminated in the group stage, the team earned $67,500, and an additional $31,154 for their lone win against Scotland.

In total, BCB’s earnings from the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup stood at Tk 103,712,142 (approximately 10.37 crore taka).
