Bangladeshi football fans hold great dreams surrounding Hamza Choudhury.

According to Transfermarkt, a website analyzing the football transfer market, India had been South Asia’s most valuable football team until now. However, Bangladesh has surpassed India, thanks to Hamza Choudhury, a footballer of Bangladeshi descent who has played in the English Premier League, gaining eligibility to play in the red-and-green jersey.

After years of effort, Hamza, who plays for Leicester City, has received approval to represent Bangladesh. Following FIFA’s clearance, Hamza is expected to debut in Bangladesh colors in March. This inclusion elevates Bangladesh to the most valuable team in South Asia, surpassing India. As a result, Hamza has become a beacon of hope for Bangladeshi football fans.

The reason behind Bangladesh overtaking India in market value is Hamza Choudhury’s current market worth, which exceeds the combined value of the entire Bangladesh national team. According to Transfermarkt, the total market value of Bangladesh’s national team is $3.05 million, while Hamza alone is valued at $4.50 million.

With Hamza joining the team, Bangladesh’s total market value now stands at $7.55 million, the highest in South Asia. Previously, India led with a combined market value of $5.86 million, followed by Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Pakistan.
