A new chapter is about to begin in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Former cricketer Sathira Jakir Jecy will have the honor of becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to umpire in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
To honor this remarkable achievement, the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka has congratulated her.
On Tuesday, in a message shared on social media, the U.S. Embassy congratulated Sathira Jakir Jecy, writing: “Congratulations to International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumna Sathira Jakir Jecy, who is set to make history as the first Bangladeshi woman umpire to officiate at the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup.”
The message also stated: “American exchange programs create new opportunities, strengthen global connections, and inspire innovation in fields including sports.”
Jecy’s role in the upcoming Women’s World Cup is expected to be a major milestone for women’s cricket in Bangladesh and open a new door for women’s empowerment in the country.
