Originally, Bangladesh and Pakistan were scheduled to face off in an ODI series this May. However, with the T20 World Cup coming up next year, both teams agreed to play a T20 series instead. The series is set to begin on Pakistani soil from the 25th of this month.
However, earlier in May, a conflict broke out between India and Pakistan, raising security concerns and pushing the series to the verge of cancellation. Following a ceasefire between the two rival South Asian neighbors, the fate of the series took a positive turn again.
After the ceasefire, the security situation improved. The interim government has given the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) the ‘green signal’ to go ahead with the tour. Subsequently, BCB and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held a meeting in Dubai to discuss the series.
During the meeting, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh for agreeing to tour Pakistan. In the meeting with BCB President Faruq Ahmed and Chairman of Cricket Operations Nazmul Abedin Fahim, it was decided that the number of matches in the series would be reduced from five to three.
Since the number of matches has been reduced, a revised schedule will be announced. Although PCB has not officially released the new schedule yet, they mentioned on social media platform X that the first match of the series will take place on May 27. The remaining two matches will be held on May 29 and June 1. All matches will be played in Lahore.
It is worth mentioning that the Bangladesh national cricket team is currently in the United Arab Emirates. They have already played two matches of a three-match series against the hosts. The final match of the series is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday (May 21). It is still unclear whether the players will travel to Pakistan directly from Dubai or return to Bangladesh before heading to Pakistan.
